Linking Distributed Optimization Models for Food, Water, and Energy Security Nexus Management

چکیده

Traditional integrated modeling (IM) is based on developing and aggregating all relevant (sub)models data into a single linear programming (LP) model. Unfortunately, this approach not applicable for IM under asymmetric information (ASI), i.e., when “private” regarding sectoral/regional models available, or it cannot be shared by teams (sectoral agencies). The lack of common about LP submodels makes methods inapplicable modeling. aim paper to develop new link optimize distributed optimization models, providing means decentralized cross-sectoral coordination in the situation ASI. Thus, linkage methodology enables investigation policies interdependent systems “decentralized” fashion. For linkage, do need recoding reprogramming. They also require additional harmonization tasks. Instead, they solve their independently parallel specific iterative subgradient algorithm nonsmooth optimization. continue same separate models. The nexus of food, energy, and water.

The Earth's population is expected to exceed 9 billion by 2050, posing significant challenges in meeting human needs while minimally affecting the environment. To support this population, we will need secure and safe sources of food, energy, and water. The nexus of food, energy, and water is one of the most complex, yet critical, issues that face society. There is no more land to exploit, and t...

Overcoming Food Security Challenges within an Energy/Water/Food Nexus (EWFN) Approach

The challenge of feeding nine billion people by 2050, in a context of constrained resources and growing environmental pressures posed by current food production methods on one side, and changing lifestyles and consequent shifts in dietary patterns on the other, exacerbated by the effects of climate change, has been defined as one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century. The first step to ...

The food-energy-water nexus: A framework for sustainable development modeling

Energy, water, and food are facing present and future challenges triggered by climate change, population growth, human behavior, and economics. Management strategies for energy, water, and food are possible through policies, technology, and related education. However, the links between resources (energy, water, and food) and impacting factors (population increase, human behavior, economics, and...
